As part of its key deliverable for the 2019 Financial Year, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) on Friday 6th December,2019 supported Sierra Leone Association for the Deaf, Sierra Leone Action for the Disadvantaged, Foundation for Advocacy and Literacy Development, Christian Union for the Blind and KATE foundation with cheques to the tune of 38,000,000 (thirty eight million Leones).
Explaining the rational behind the donation, NCPD Executive Secretary, Saa Lamin Kortequee, stated that the Commission had supported other Disabled Persons Organizations across the country adding that it is but important to render assistance to the hearing impaired, on grounds that they are the most marginalized categories of the society.
He admonished the beneficiaries to use the money for its desired purpose and assured them of the Commission’s continued support.
Presenting the Cheques to the beneficiaries, NCPD Chairman James Taiwo Cullen said that the Commission is working to ensure the lives of Persons with disabilities are changed for the better and that they will champion the course of the disabled.
He maintained that the Commission is not selective in rendering support to the disabled but they look at the viability and sustainability of the project proposal, stressing that “we are giving support to the Sierra Leone Association for the Deaf because of their good initiative to transform lives”.
The NCPD Chairman disclosed that the Commission will do all in his power to ensure that every disabled person benefits from government’s largesse.
Thanking the Commission for the support, Alhaji Rahman, representative of the Sierra Leone Association of the Deaf, appreciated the Chairman and his team for the kind gesture and promised to use the money judiciously for the betterment of all.
Other beneficiary organisations also expressed similar sentiments.
