NCPD Strengthens Partnership with UNDP to Advance Inclusive Development for PWDs

On 30th January, 2026 the Chairman and Chief Commissioner, Brima Abdulai Sheriff, led the NCPD team on a courtesy visit to the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Kevin Petrini.

The NCPD Strengthens Partnership with UNDP to Advance Inclusive Development for PWDs on 30 January 2026, the Chairman and Chief Commissioner of the National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD), Brima Abdulai Sheriff, led an NCPD team on a courtesy visit to the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Kevin Petrini, to deepen collaboration on disability inclusion in Sierra Leone. Commissioner Sheriff expressed appreciation for UNDP’s continued partnership, especially the US$1 million India–UN Fund project supporting vocational skills training and the construction of 60 accessible bedrooms and skills-training facilities for households of persons with disabilities (PWDs) relocated from Pademba Road to the Approved School community. He also presented the Commission’s PRIDE Vision; Policy, Resilience, Inclusion & Innovation, Dignity, and Empowerment highlighting NCPD’s commitment to a rights-based, development-focused approach to disability inclusion. Updates were shared from the Commissioner’s Regional tour, including persistent challenges faced by PWDs: limited access to education and healthcare, high unemployment, stigma, and inaccessible infrastructure. Commissioner Sheriff also outlined the institutional constraints affecting effective nationwide service delivery. Kevin Petrini, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative welcomed the engagement, offered guidance on resource mobilization, and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing disability-inclusive development across the country. Together, NCPD and UNDP remain committed to ensuring that PWDs in Sierra Leone are included, empowered, and not left behind. Other members of Delegation present included Aminata Blessing Kelly, Ivanson A. Kargbo, Edward A.B.S. Kanu, and Hawa Precious Koroma from the NCPD and Tanzila Sankoh, Richard Munzi, and Mustapha Kamara from the UNDP.
